Boys, this is a big game for us. The Conference USA title is up for grabs. A victory over SMU is a must if we're going to do some grabin'. Granted, our schedule is a joke and we were projected to be the punch-line. It's all relative though. If we take advantage of the parity in this weak conference, we may very well look back one day on what a blessing it was to win AND rebuild at the same time.
We've got a chance to win two in a row and to get that consecutive win on the road. Not only that, but we'd see .500 for the first time in how many years. This is a big game and SMU is the team to do it against. They suck, yet we're still underdogs. Vegas may be catching on to us, but, I feel a severe beat-down a-brewing.
Interestingly, we all predicted 3and 3 after 6 games (except Rob, who I think meant to, but got his numbers transposed).

GREG: ECU 28, SMU 21 (3-3)
.500 baby. Granted, we ain't playing the elite teams, but I'd sign up for 3 and 3 after 6 games right now (8/30/05).
RON: ECU 35, SMU 7 (3-3)
SMU was destroyed by Rice … so, this is our one game that should be a romp for ECU, no matter how bad we are.
MATT: ECU 24, SMU 21 (3-3)
The Pirates conquest over Texas continued in a game that shouldn't have been as close as the score indicated.
ROBB: ECU 69, SMU –2 (
SMU is Rice Lite. Guzzle.

I don't think any of us envisioned how important a 3 and 3 record could be at this point in the season though. The way the C-USA teams have been beating-up on each other, the Pirates are in control of their own destiny. Man would I love to see Scout Master Holtz patrolling the sidelines against George O'Leary and the UCF Knights as ABC's fourth string broadcasting crew called the action.
I realize how irrational this talk is, but, I'm grieving over the loss of baseball for the year, so let me dream a little......
