ECU Takes 2-of-3 from ACC Turtles
Pirates score game-winner in bottom of 9th to beat the Terrapins.
While I would loved to have gotten an opening weekend sweep of an ACC foe, 2-out-of-3 ain't bad. And, through three games, our pitching looks to be pretty damn good. We won the second half of the Sunday double-header 5-4, and Dustin Sasser pitched a hell of game in a 1-0 loss in the early game.
Our hitting may be a little suspect early on, but this team has some talent. Of course, the folks over at Baseball America (aka, Tar Heel propaganda machine) keep calling this a transitional year for ECU, I still think that the NCAAs are within reach.
If the bats catch up to the arms, this is going to be a surprisingly good team. With the College of Charleston coming in for a 3-game set on Friday and the Keith LeClair Classic bringing N.C. State, Virginia Tech, UNC-W, West Virginia and Penn State to Greenville, the schedule is a pretty damn good one, not to mention a road trip for three games at CWS 2004 champs Cal State Fullerton.
Plus, with local assets at ECU like the one pictured here, it is always a great season! I hope this year's group of male ECU students realize how lucky they are. Like fishing with dynamite.
