PIRATES Lay the Wood to Terrapins
Clark-LeClair Stadium: Man, what a beautiful park...wish I was there!
ECU opened its baseball season today at home to visiting ACC challenger Maryland today and layed a 6-1 smackdown on the turtles. Pitcher TJ Hose went six strong innings, firing 8 strikeouts before turning over the 6-1 lead to the bullpen which then closed it out.
The Pirates answered some of the questions heading into the season after lossing 4 studs to Major League clubs last season. The question about pitching appears to be answered with great starting pitching and excellent relief while Maryland was knocked silly for 11 hits going through a host of pitchers. The second question was about hitting power...well with a pair of bombs in the game from the Pirates, that also seems to be answered.
The Pirates have something like their first 15 games at home in beautiful Clark-LeClair Stadium, so we may be off to a great season. The players are confident...check this out from one of this year's big arms. He says 50-55 wins possible. That would put us in Omaha for sure.

Nice job, Ron. We should make a pack to go to Omaha if the need arises.
