Memphis Blues

A sweet victory:
East Carolina's defense forced five interceptions against Memphis Saturday night and turned two of them into touchdowns themselves as the Pirates scored 28 unanswered points in the second half for a 35-20 victory at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
We needed this win in the worst of ways. I'm most impressed with the improved appearance of our defense this year -- a trait absent for the last half-decade. We've now held three opponents to less than 28 points. The attendance of 37,500 is not too shabby either.

Apparently, Holtz got in the players' face a little bit. Nice to hear that too.

On another note, I wonder when the Daily Reflector will decide to assign another reporter to the Pirate Football games? With only six home games a year -- arguably the biggest sporting events in Greenville -- you'd think they could devote a little more manpower to the games.

They did send a photographer at least. Here's a nice slideshow that'll make you pine for Dowdy-Ficklen.

Oh, by the way, I'm predicting a West Virginia upset next week.
