The Unthinkable

The New Bern Sun Journal finally wrote the article for which I've been searching. Here are the scenarios if ECU doesn't take care of business tomorrow:
If ECU loses, it can still clinch the East Division if Southern Miss falls to UAB this weekend.

But, if ECU loses and Southern Miss wins its final two games against UAB and Marshall, Southern Miss would go to the conference championship, as the Golden Eagles would finish 6-2 in conference play, while ECU would stay home at 5-3.

Then there’s the game at N.C. State.

If ECU loses its final two games of the season — and Southern Miss loses this weekend — the Pirates, at 6-6 overall, would still go to the conference championship. However, the Pirates would have to win the conference championship to go to a bowl.

A loss would leave them at 6-7, and, according to Alfred White, associate commissioner of C-USA, a team must be 6-6 or better to go bowling.
Obviously, it'd be best to just win at Rice. I have great faith that Sergeant "Major Tom" Holtz will have the Pirates properly motivated for tomorrow's game.

ECU 35, Rice 7
