That troubling win...

Here's the best point from Denny O'Brien's column:
Much of that can be attributed to the fact that the Pirates were woefully inept through the air. Aside from a drive that ended in a 27-yard scoring toss to receiver Reyn Willis, quarterback Patrick Pinkney had arguably the most unimpressive performance of his career.

Pinkney completed only 12-of-27 passes for 131 yards and was intercepted twice. He threw behind receivers, overthrew them, and never truly looked comfortable in the second half.

It’s hardly the type of performance you would expect from a three-year starter or sixth-year senior. It’s certainly not what you would envision from the guy who efficiently worked over both Virginia Tech and West Virginia last season, and who finally has a full complement of weapons around him.
Yes, that's the problem. I'm not sure why everyone was acting like the 6th year of eligibility was such a gift. Pinkney has consistently underperformed in many of his games -- including key gaffes that have led to losses. (Think last year's fumble to end the NC State game.) If he doesn't start offering some consistency soon, this will be a long season.

Yeah....What I wouldn't give for one of Logan's prodigies right about now.

The scary thing about Pinkney is that yesterday's performance is closer to who is as a QB than how he played in the WV or VT games last year. He's just not that good.

Disagree with you guys. A couple points on Pinkney...

1. his completion percentage rivals or surpasses many of the logan qbs;

2. he is a big-game QB and rises to the big game, so I expect he will show his abilities in teh next two games;

3. our play calling becomes way too conservative at times as was the case most of last year and also last week. We didnt take a single fucking shot downfield last week so when app put their safeties in the box and all we called were bubble screens and passes to the flat...the outcome is pretty predictable. BTW, the one INT bounced off of Bryant's hands.

4. as it relates to app state, it should also be noted that the ENTIRE team had a problem putting the car back into gear. Classic sports psychology was in play...our guys literally couldn't get themeslves back into it. Also, the offense was using backups much of the second half.

Bottom line, he is a better option then all other QBs on the current roster.

I will go out on a limb and say this...if we lose to WVa, it won't be because of Pinkney. I expect he will have a very good game.
