I guess I'm guilty of believing my own hype. I admit that was expecting a win on Saturday. My first reaction was to blame Holtz for not having the boys ready to play. Maybe he deserves the benefit of the doubt though. After all, this is his first year and it's a formidable rebuilding project he has assumed. To be fair, it takes time to turn around a program that was decimated by a jerkface riverboat gambler.
I'm scaling back my optimism boys. We may indeed be headed for a 3-8 season, however, I'm gonna try to see the silver lining. We played WV tough (although VT showed them what a real Big East powerhouse looks like on Saturday), we won our opener, upsetting conventional wisdom, and the fans have been supportive and re-energized. These are good things.
I am however going to demote Holtz to Lieutenant first class. He's got to earn his stars.

Yes, the WVU/VT game was not fun to watch, although telling the VA state trooper to arrest Marcus Vick for being a sex offender was a hoot. Anyway, on to ECU: Even though we're on a 3 game skid, this is the most energized I've been about Pirate football since 2001. I'm still riding the bowl bandwagon. Here's hoping that Rice doesn't knock me off of it.
