Today, may be the hardest one to take, IMO. Yes...I was wary of Central Florida...but the overall number of mistakes by a team that needed this win badly, was at home for HOMECOMING, and had a chance to put UCF away is just unacceptable.
In the modern era of college football, ECU has yet to field a team with the killer instinct. Though the '83 and '91 teams were awesome, even they lacked that stake-in-the-heart ability. ECU's hallmark has always been to ensure that the opponent has a chance to win it down to the wire. I am so tired of it.
On offense, we turn the ballover 6 times...unacceptable. We go deep maybe twice the whole game...WTF?
Our defense showed a lot of improvement today...unfortunately, even with that improvement, we give up 2 TDs in the 4th quarter that have me scratching my head. The first, cardinal rule in the secondary from Pop Warner to the NFL is what? Anyone? That's right, you DO NOT let a receiver get behind you. In college, you can even foul the piss out of him and only give up 15 yards. Anybody watch how Va Tech, FSU, Miami play? On the rare occasion I guy gets a step on their DBs, they tackle the guy. Cardinal rule. Not only did we fail to execute against the most fundamental of rules in the secondary, but also we failed to do so against our opponents VERY BEST receiver. The one guy who our DBs should be aware of at all times. It makes me sick!
Oh yeah...let's also not forget that we gave them their first TD on a special teams fumble...so we pulled the trifecta today...mistakes in every facet of the game.
Rant over.
